My generation grew up
watching, being entertained by and laughing with so many of these fine people.
Never really knowing what they contributed to the war effort.
Like millions of Americans during WWI & WWII, there was a job that needed
doing and they didn't question it,
just went and did it.
Those that came home returned to their now new normal life and carried on
and
very few ever saying what they did or saw.
They took it as their "responsibility" and their "duty" to the Country to
protect and preserve our freedoms.
American way of life not just for themselves, but for all future generations to
come.
As a member of that “Finest" generation, I'm forever humbly in their debt.

Regis Francis Xavier
Philbin, served in the
U.S. Navy - 1953-1955
He served
in the United States Navy as a supply officer.
Paul Dooley enlisted in the Navy at the tale-end of World War II,
spending time at sea around Japan.
Charles Drake enlisted in the Army in WWII in 1943.
Harry Belafonte, At the young age of 19, after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Eli Wallach was drafted into the United
States Army in
January 1941.
He served as staff sergeant in a
military hospital in Hawaii and
later sent to Officer
Candidate School (OCS)
in Abilene,
Texas to
train as a
medical
administrative officer. Commissioned a second lieutenant, he was ordered to Casablanca.
Later when
he was serving in France,
a senior officer.
Philip Ahn enlisted in the United
States Army,
during WWII having served in the Special Services.
He served until September 1945. He attended Officer Candidate School, was washed
out because of a bad ankle,
and then unwittingly passed up an offer to be a diplomatic officer for the OSS.
Mistakenly thought to be Japanese, he received several death threats.
Nipsey Russell served as a medic in
Europe
and was a captain in the United States Army in World War II.
Maurice Chevalier served on the front line during WW-I and was wounded
and taken prisoner in Germany for 2
years. He was asked by Germans to perform during WW2, he refused
but sang for
POWs in Germany and
liberated 10 people in exchange.
Richard Boone enlisted in the US Navy and served aboard 3 ships and saw combat
as an aviation Ordinance man and tail gunner.
Burt Lancaster enlisted in the Army 21st Special Services Division they
provided the troops
USO entertainment to keep up morale. Italy 1943-45.
Charles
Lewis Napier
he
enlisted in the United
States Army in
1954,
serving with the 11th
Airborne Division and
rising to the rank of sergeant.
Red Button
(Born Aaron Chwatt) (Served 1943-1945) he was drafted
into the Army Air Corps,
where he entertained U. S. troops in Europe and was cast in Moss Hart's wartime
propaganda play "Winged Victory".
