My generation grew up
watching, being entertained by and laughing with so many of these fine people.
Never really knowing what they contributed to the war effort.
Like millions of Americans during WWI & WWII, there was a job that needed
doing and they didn't question it,
just went and did it.
Those that came home returned to their now new normal life and carried on
and
very few ever saying what they did or saw.
They took it as their "responsibility" and their "duty" to the Country to
protect and preserve our freedoms.
American way of life not just for themselves, but for all future generations to
come.
As a member of that “Finest" generation, I'm forever humbly in their debt.

Alan
Hale Jr,
During World
War II
enlisted in the United
States Coast Guard
(1941-45).
After the death of his father in 1950, Hale dropped the "Junior" from his
name.
Steve Reeves: After graduating from high school,
enlisted in the Army during World War II, and served in the Philippines.
Robert Altman,
In 1943
Altman joined the United
States Army Air Forces at
the age of 18.
During World War II, Altman flew more than 50 bombing missions as a crewman on a B-24
Liberator
with the 307th Bomb Group in Borneo and
the Dutch
East Indies.
Harry
Carey Jr.,
He served with the United
States Navy during World
War II.
He was a United States medical
corpsman, but was later assigned to do work in motion pictures.
For this assignment, he worked with John
Ford on
films for the U.S. Military.
Gavin MacLeod (born Allan George) in 1952 enlisted in the United States Air Force.
Pat
Hingle,
(born:
Martin Patterson Hingle)
enlisted in
the United
States Navy in
December 1941,
dropping out of the University
of Texas.
He served on the destroyer USS Marshall during World
War II.
Robert Ryan,
enlisted in
the United
States Marine Corps and
served as a drill
instructor at Camp
Pendleton,
located between Oceanside and San
Clemente in
Southern California.
Mickey Spillane,
During World
War II enlisted
in the Army
Air Corps,
becoming a fighter pilot and a flight instructor.
R. Lee Ermey spent 11 years in the Marine Corps, Two of which
were spent as being a
Drill Instructor at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego from 1965-67.
Arrived in Vietnam in 1968 spending 14 months attached to Marine Wing Support
Group 17.
Promoted to Staff Sergeant and was medically retired for injuries received.
On May 17, 2002 he received an honorary promotion to Gunnery Sergeant (E-7).
Claude Akins,
served
with the U.S.
Army Signal Corps
in World
War II in Burma and
the Philippines.
Fess
Parker, US Navy and US Marines.
Booted from pilot training for being too tall, joined Marines as a radio
operator.
Steve Allen (born
Stephen Valentine
Patrick William "Steve" Allen)
enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II
and was trained as an infantryman.
He served his time at Camp Roberts, California and did not serve overseas.
